On January 31, the National Energy Administration announced the launch of a "Three-Year Doubling" initiative for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, aiming to increase the total number of charging points nationwide to 28 million by the end of 2027—sufficient to meet the charging needs of over 80 million EVs. China already boasts the world's largest charging network, with 20.092 million charging points currently in place, supporting more than 43 million new-energy vehicles. The initiative will focus on alleviating key pain points such as long waiting times ("people waiting for chargers") and difficulty locating available charging stations. Under the plan, cities will add 1.6 million DC fast-charging connectors (including 100,000 high-power units), while highway service areas will see the construction or upgrading of 40,000 ultra-fast chargers rated at over 60 kilowatts. Additionally, pilot programs for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) integration will be expanded, adding more than 5,000 new bidirectional charging and discharging facilities capable of delivering over 20 million kilowatt-hours of electricity back to the grid annually.
