On February 17 local time in the U.S., Tesla rolled out the first Cybercab autonomous taxi from its Texas Gigafactory. Designed exclusively for self-driving operation, the Cybercab was unveiled in October 2024 and features only two seats, with no steering wheel, accelerator, or brake pedals. The vehicle produced this time is likely a prototype, with mass production scheduled to begin in April 2026, though specific production targets have not yet been disclosed. CEO Elon Musk stated that the Cybercab employs an entirely new manufacturing process, significantly boosting production efficiency, and could eventually reach an annual production capacity of up to 5 million units—though initial ramp-up may be relatively slow. This milestone marks a critical step forward in Tesla’s commercialization of autonomous driving technology.
