Lamborghini has officially canceled its plans to mass-produce the Lanzador, its first all-electric vehicle. Initially unveiled as a concept car in 2023, the Lanzador was originally scheduled for production in 2028, later postponed to 2029, and has now been entirely scrapped. CEO Stephan Winkelmann stated that the brand’s core customers have “virtually zero” interest in an electric supercar lacking a V8 or V12 engine. After more than a year of internal discussions and consultations with dealers and customers, the company decided in late 2025 to abandon the project, describing all-electric vehicles as currently an “expensive hobby” that requires significant investment but yields low returns. However, Lamborghini is not entirely stepping away from electrification. The company plans to launch plug-in hybrid versions of both the Lanzador and the next-generation Urus by the end of this decade, aiming to balance regulatory requirements with customer emotional attachment. Despite EU regulations mandating a substantial reduction in carbon emissions by 2035, Lamborghini remains committed to retaining internal combustion engines, believing they deliver a more passionate driving experience.
