A TikTok user named Taylor recently posted a video expressing shock after looking up the crash test ratings for the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan, questioning its safety and stating, “If I were in an accident, I probably wouldn’t survive.” The video has garnered over 16.5 million views. However, facts show that this model was awarded the “Top Safety Pick” designation by the U.S.-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), performing exceptionally well in multiple tests including frontal impact, side impact, and roof strength. It also received a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. Although some trims had minor issues such as headlight glare, the vehicle’s overall safety performance remains solid. The video sparked widespread online discussion, prompting many viewers to check their own vehicles’ safety ratings. Brands like Subaru, Toyota, and Honda have been frequently praised for their high safety scores, while some users admitted they were “too scared to look” or declared they would “always check crash test results before buying a car.”
