Tesla recently filed a 167-page opposition document with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), accusing French beverage wholesaler UNIBEV of maliciously squatting on the trademark for its new vehicle, "Cybercab." Tesla alleges that UNIBEV, a beverage company with no background in automotive manufacturing, has registered trademarks including "Cybercab," "Cyberquad," and "Cybertaxi"—names closely associated with Tesla—in what constitutes fraudulent conduct and a classic case of trademark squatting. Tesla emphasized that it had already publicly used the name "Cybercab" during its "We, Robot" event in October 2024 and plans to begin mass production of the vehicle in April 2025, with a version priced under $30,000 slated for launch by 2027. The first Cybercab prototype—featuring no steering wheel—rolled off Tesla’s Texas factory line on February 17, placing this trademark dispute at a critical juncture just as mass production approaches.
