The 2026 Mazda CX-5 builds upon its reputation for class-leading handling with further refinements. Engineers drew inspiration from the MX-5 Miata’s chassis philosophy, equipping the vehicle with new shock absorbers featuring larger-diameter pistons and low-friction valve systems, paired with softer springs and stronger initial damping to enhance ride comfort while minimizing body roll. The steering system has also been comprehensively upgraded: by optimizing the G-Vectoring Control system, pre-loading the all-wheel-drive torque coupler, and reducing electric power steering damping, Mazda delivers more linear and communicative steering feedback. Ruben Archilla, Mazda’s head of R&D, stated, “We’re not changing its character—we’re making it even better.”
