At an industry forum on March 17, Wei Jianjun, Chairman of Great Wall Motor, articulated the core principle that “credibility must be established before an industry can thrive.” He noted that while China’s automotive industry currently leads globally in production and sales, it still faces four critical challenges on its path to becoming a true automotive powerhouse: companies must refocus on value creation, the market needs to abandon disorderly competition, the entire supply chain should build a collaborative and mutually beneficial ecosystem, and overseas expansion must shift toward deep localization. Wei emphasized that credibility is key to reducing transaction costs and enhancing efficiency—and represents a core competitive advantage that is difficult for rivals to replicate. To put this philosophy into practice, Great Wall Motor has taken concrete actions in three areas: maintaining unwavering commitment to quality and responsibility for customers, driving collaborative upgrades across the industrial supply chain, and pursuing an “ecosystem-based globalization” strategy overseas by localizing every link—from R&D and manufacturing to sales, supply, and after-sales service. He called on the entire industry to embrace long-termism and integrate credibility-building into daily operations, thereby helping Chinese brands earn global trust.
