On March 17, ZF LIFETEC officially broke ground on its capacity expansion project for gas generators at its Xi’an base in the Xi’an Economic & Technological Development Zone. With a total investment of €150 million, the project will construct a new facility covering approximately 3,636 square meters and is scheduled for completion in 2026, featuring production lines for SHI2/SHI3 hybrid gas generators and supporting equipment. Once fully operational, the site will add annual capacity of 4.1 million hybrid gas generators and 1.8 million hood-lift actuators, bringing its total annual gas generator output to over 21 million units. The project will also include an integrated R&D laboratory covering material testing, structural validation, and prototype development, accelerating innovation in next-generation passive safety technologies. As ZF Group’s sole production base for such products in the Asia-Pacific region, the Xi’an facility has been deeply rooted in the Chinese market since commencing operations in 2010. It will closely collaborate with ZF’s nine other manufacturing sites and five R&D centers across Asia-Pacific to strengthen its global supply capabilities. ZF LIFETEC stated that this move underscores its strategic commitment to further invest in China and deepen its presence across the Asia-Pacific region.
