French automotive supplier Valeo announced a $225 million investment to build a new plant in McAllen, Texas, to produce central computing units for General Motors’ next-generation vehicles. Located near the U.S.-Mexico border, the facility will be constructed over five years and is scheduled to begin production by the end of 2027—ahead of GM’s planned integration of the platform into the Cadillac Escalade IQ in 2028. The central computing unit, regarded as the vehicle’s “brain,” consolidates multiple electronic control units, enabling advanced driver-assistance systems and AI capabilities while simplifying wiring harnesses and improving software update efficiency. Shay Kimmelman, President of Valeo North America, stated that this project represents one of the company’s largest orders ever. The new plant will employ up to 500 people and, together with Valeo’s sensor manufacturing facility in Mexico, will form a high-tech industrial cluster to enhance coordinated supply capabilities for automakers in both the U.S. and Mexico. GM emphasized that such partnerships are critical to advancing its software-defined vehicle strategy.
