After more than a decade of dormancy, the iconic Land Rover Freelander is set to make a comeback in an all-new form. The new model will be developed by CJLR, a joint venture established in 2024 between Jaguar Land Rover and Chery, and is scheduled for its global debut on March 31, 2026. The first teaser image reveals a bold, boxy front fascia featuring distinctive daytime running lights and black accents, paying homage to the early Discovery models. With an overall length of approximately five meters, the vehicle integrates design cues from Chery’s Jaecoo series. Inside, the cabin adopts a six-seat configuration, equipped with a multi-screen tech-focused cockpit and premium materials. As the first product under the newly launched “global NEV (New Energy Vehicle) brand,” the Freelander will be offered in both range-extended and high-performance hybrid variants. Powering these versions are a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine developed by Chery’s Ateco subsidiary, a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, and batteries supplied by CATL—delivering a balanced blend of off-road capability and electrified driving experience. Initially targeting the Chinese and international markets, the vehicle currently has no plans for introduction in the United States.
