On April 16, Lei Jun, founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi, announced that he would personally participate in and livestream a long-distance range test of the new Xiaomi SU7, driving from Beijing to Shanghai starting at 6:30 a.m. on April 17. The journey is expected to take approximately 15 hours. Lei stated he had been nervous for several days in preparation and addressed prior controversy surrounding claims of “1,300 kilometers on a single charge.” He explained that this figure originated from his own real-world test drive of the YU7 Standard Edition in early last year, which was fully documented on video. However, edited clips circulating online led to misunderstandings and accusations of false advertising. According to official Xiaomi data, the YU7 Standard Edition has a CLTC-rated range of 835 kilometers. Lei emphasized that his remarks were maliciously edited to falsely label Xiaomi’s marketing as deceptive and urged netizens to report such misinformation. The new Xiaomi SU7 officially launched on March 19 and began deliveries on March 23. As of April 1, cumulative deliveries of the model exceeded 7,000 units, with total Xiaomi vehicle deliveries surpassing 20,000 in March alone. On April 2, Lei revealed that firm orders for the new car had already topped 40,000 units. The vehicle is available in multiple exterior colors, with Indigo Green, Elegant Grey, and Flowing Gold being the most popular. Interior options are dominated by Misty Purple. Pricing starts at RMB 219,900 for the Standard Edition, RMB 249,900 for the Pro Edition, and RMB 303,900 for the Max Edition. Among the first batch of owners, 34% are female, and 60–70% are upgrading or replacing their previous vehicles. Approximately 70% of buyers placed orders without comparing other brands, while 20% compared it against the Tesla Model 3 and 10% against BBA (BMW, Benz, Audi) models. Battery safety tests showed that the ternary lithium battery in the SU7 Max—withstood nail penetration testing under extreme conditions of 55°C ambient temperature and full charge—without thermal runaway, fire, or explosion, exceeding national safety standards. Additionally, Xiaomi has raised its delivery target for 2025 to over 410,000 vehicles and set a 2026 goal of 550,000 units. Production of the first-generation SU7 ended in February 2024, having delivered more than 380,000 units in total.
