Audi's five-cylinder engine can no longer be sold in Europe due to emissions regulations. However, Audi stated it is evaluating various technical options in hopes of keeping the engine alive in the European market. Rolf Michl, head of Audi Sport, revealed the company remains open to all solutions—including hybridization—and is still exploring different technological pathways. According to reports, significant modifications will be required for Audi’s 2.5-liter inline-five engine to comply with the upcoming Euro 7 emissions standards, which will take effect later this year. Meanwhile, Audi will continue producing the RS3 and RS3 Sportback models equipped with this engine for markets outside Europe.
