Ford CEO Jim Farley stated that the company plans to expand collaborations with Chinese automakers in markets outside the United States. He noted that Chinese carmakers lead globally in technology, cost control, and development speed. Farley also warned that if Chinese automakers enter the U.S. market, they would significantly disrupt the domestic auto industry, emphasizing that such competition would not be fair. He highlighted that companies like BYD, Geely, Xiaomi, and SAIC are continuously advancing in pricing, software capabilities, and battery technology, exerting substantial pressure on Western automakers. Some countries that have already opened their markets to Chinese vehicle imports are already experiencing manufacturing and job losses. Ford is currently evaluating a clear strategy—prioritizing either local production or imports from China—and aims to gain technological expertise through partnerships with Chinese firms to remain competitive in Europe, South America, Southeast Asia, and Mexico, regions that are currently focal points of Chinese automakers’ overseas expansion.
