Chery Automobile clarified that it is merely one of several shareholders in the EMT project and does not participate in the joint venture's management or operations. Earlier reports indicated that Chery, together with Japanese automotive aftermarket company Autobacs and other partners, established a joint venture aiming to sell China-made battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in Japan starting from 2027. The joint venture will launch its own EV brand through EMT, a development and sales company based in Yokohama, Japan, positioning it as a "Japan-originated brand" in the market. EMT has already attracted technical personnel from Japanese automakers such as Honda and Mazda, focusing on developing vehicles tailored specifically for the Japanese market. In addition to Chery and Autobacs, other partners include Jiangsu Yueda Automotive Group, battery maker Gotion High-Tech, and Japanese painting equipment company Anest Iwata. The parties have jointly established the joint venture in Singapore to integrate resources and jointly expand into Japan’s new energy vehicle market.
