At its Gigafactory Berlin, Tesla is using its Full Self-Driving (FSD) feature—currently not approved for use on public roads—to autonomously drive newly assembled Model Y vehicles from the end of the assembly line to designated parking areas within the factory premises. This operation takes place entirely on private property along a fixed route in a controlled environment, without involving public roads or mixed traffic, and therefore does not require regulatory approval. According to factory staff, each newly produced vehicle activates FSD immediately after rolling off the line and completes a short autonomous journey without human intervention. The system has collectively logged approximately 150,000 kilometers (93,000 miles) of such operations. This approach reduces the time and labor required for manual vehicle relocation, enhancing logistics efficiency and parking turnover at the high-output facility. The process was showcased in an internal tour video.
