Tesla updated the U.S. pricing for its Model Y on May 16, 2026, raising prices for certain higher-trim variants. The Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive (Premium RWD) and Long Range All-Wheel Drive (Premium AWD) versions each increased by $1,000, while the Performance All-Wheel Drive (Performance AWD) variant rose by $500. Prices for the base Model Y RWD and AWD trims remained unchanged at $39,990 and $41,990, respectively. This marks Tesla’s first price increase for the Model Y in the U.S. market since 2024 and its first overall adjustment in two years. The increases range from 1.2% to 2.2%, below the approximately 5% automotive inflation rate over the same period. Concurrently, the higher-end trims now feature exclusive new exterior color options, and the Model Y has become the first vehicle to pass the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) test. Tesla did not issue an official statement or announcement regarding this price adjustment. Industry analysts suggest the move reflects Tesla’s assessment of diverging market demand—maintaining low entry-level pricing to retain cost-sensitive customers while raising prices on premium trims to address rising costs and competitive pressures. Currently, key rivals in the segment include the Hyundai Ioniq 5 AWD, starting around $45,000, and the Ford Mustang Mach-E Select AWD, priced from approximately $43,000, placing the Model Y Performance under significant pricing pressure. Some forecasts also indicate that if Tesla launches a future Model Y L variant in the U.S., its price could fall within the $50,000–$52,000 range to create clearer differentiation from the Premium AWD model.
