Porsche's headquarters in Germany responded by stating that the company is streamlining the number of Taycan derivatives to reduce product complexity—not discontinuing the entire model line—and has no plans to halt Taycan production in the short term. The Taycan, Porsche’s first all-electric four-door sports sedan, made its global debut in 2019. Global deliveries of the Taycan totaled approximately 41,000 units in 2023, declined to around 29,000 in 2024, and are projected to fall further to about 16,000 in 2025. Deliveries in the first half of 2026 are expected to reach roughly 6,000 units worldwide. In the Chinese market, sales for the first five months of 2026 amounted to just 110 units, averaging about 22 units per month. At the end of July, Porsche CEO Michael Lohscheller stated that the company has already invested heavily in the Taycan and has no intention of discontinuing it in the near term, adding that Porsche will assess the model’s future based on evolving market demand. Additionally, media reports indicate that Porsche is evaluating a potential integration of the Taycan and Panamera into a single unified model series, offering three powertrain options: internal combustion, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric.
