On November 2, 2026 local time, BMW announced plans to expand its L2 assisted driving from highways and rural roads to urban roads starting in 2027. The feature will be launched first in Germany. BMW stated that its new driver assistance system has passed real-world road tests conducted by a third-party technical organization in accordance with DCAS Series 2 regulations and is expected to receive final regulatory approval in early 2027. The new BMW iX3, BMW iX4, and all models of the BMW X5, 3 Series, and 7 Series support the navigation-guided ADAS system at the hardware level. Provided the driver remains attentive, BMW Symbiotic Drive will assist with operations including turning, lane changes, right-of-way judgments, and roundabout driving.
