Ford launched a privacy pledge website this week to explain the types of connected vehicle data it collects. The information gathered varies by model and includes vehicle location, driving habits, diagnostic trouble codes, and other data obtained through the vehicle and Ford's mobile app. Ford Chief Privacy Officer Kristen Jones said owners who do not want to share any connected vehicle data with Ford can choose to turn off data sharing. If owners disable connected navigation, network connectivity, and location services in the Ford app, some in-vehicle features will stop working; if the vehicle refuses to provide location information to Ford, drivers will not be able to access real-time traffic and other nearby information. Ford's privacy pledge website launch comes shortly after General Motors reached a $220 million settlement over driving data sharing. GM was accused of selling driving data to data brokers through its SmartDriver program between 2016 and 2024. Ford emphasized that it does not engage in such business practices.
