At the 2026 CIIE, Michelin showcased two tire technologies: a tire made from 75% renewable and recycled materials, and a pure software sensing technology called Touch Intelligence. The materials used in the tire include carbon black recycled from end-of-life tires, bio-based oils and resins, bio-based synthetic rubber, silica extracted from rice husks, recycled steel, and renewable textile materials, with sustainable materials accounting for 75%. The tire has received third-party certification. Michelin has set targets for sustainable materials to account for an average of 40% across its full tire lineup by 2030 and 100% by 2050. At the CIIE two years earlier, Michelin displayed a concept tire with 71% sustainable materials. Touch Intelligence is a pure software solution that does not add hardware inside the tire. Instead, it leverages over a hundred existing data channels in the vehicle—such as wheel speed, ABS, and radar—to infer tire status through algorithms. Combined with a digital twin model, the technology can output four types of information in real time: grip, leak warnings, wear monitoring, and load and rolling resistance estimation. The grip function was developed in partnership with braking system manufacturer Brembo and can shorten braking distance by 4 meters compared with the baseline. Mu Yunzhou, Michelin China's R&D Director of Tire Performance Simulation and Testing, said the software solution requires no additional hardware costs and can be adapted to tires of all brands after completing vehicle calibration. Huang Zhe, Michelin China's Technical Director of Original Equipment Business, said Michelin is working with domestic automaker partners to advance development of the system and plans to achieve the world's first commercial deployment in China.
