The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has closed its investigation into Tesla's Smart Summon feature. This feature allows owners to remotely command their vehicles via the Tesla app to drive to their location or a designated spot. The investigation, launched in January 2025, followed multiple reports of collisions occurring while the feature was in use. After review, the agency found that among millions of uses, the crash rate was less than 1%, and nearly all related incidents involved only minor property damage claims, with no reports of injuries.
