Ford has announced a recall of 422,613 vehicles, including the 2021–2023 Ford Expedition, 2022–2023 Ford Super Duty, and 2021–2023 Lincoln Navigator. The recall stems from a potential defect in the windshield wiper system, which may exhibit abnormal operation, complete failure, or detachment from the vehicle. Ford previously issued a recall in April 2022 for the same issue affecting certain vehicles within these model lines. Recently, the company discovered warranty claims related to this problem in vehicles produced beyond the original cutoff date covered by the earlier recall, prompting an expansion of the recall scope. An investigation confirmed that the issue originates from improperly crimped mounting plates in wiper assemblies supplied by Trico, which can prevent secure attachment of the wiper arm head. This may lead to wear on the wiper arm splines, impairing functionality and potentially reducing driver visibility during adverse weather conditions. Ford first became aware of the potential issue in January 2026. Under an agreement reached with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in 2024, the company was required to review recall records from the past three years. During this review, Ford observed a significant increase in warranty claims for the Expedition and Navigator models. In February 2026, Ford expanded its investigation to include the Super Duty, and by March had identified the root cause. As of March 16, 2026, Ford had received 1,538 warranty reports, 11 field reports, and three customer service reports related to this issue. No accidents, injuries, or fire incidents linked to the defect have been reported. The company plans to notify affected vehicle owners this month and is still finalizing specific inspection and repair procedures. Non-compliant wiper systems will be replaced.
