Chinese auto parts suppliers have become deeply integrated into the U.S. automotive supply chain. Data shows that among nearly 10,000 automotive suppliers in the United States, approximately 5% have Chinese ownership, with over 60 being wholly owned by Chinese companies. Chinese firms such as Fuyao Glass, Nexteer Automotive, and CATL have long provided stable supplies to international automakers including Ford, General Motors, and Toyota. Currently, more than 40 vehicle models sold in the U.S. market incorporate Chinese-made components, with some models containing up to 20% Chinese-sourced parts. The global landscape of the automotive parts industry has undergone significant transformation. In 2012, only one company among the world’s top 100 automotive suppliers was Chinese; by 2024, that number had risen to 13, and industry analysts project it will reach 22 by 2030. Despite efforts by some U.S. lawmakers to advance restrictive legislation—proposing bans on core Chinese-made components such as airbags and seat belts in an attempt to curb Chinese companies’ growth in the U.S.—Chinese auto parts suppliers have already emerged as major players in the global competition for automotive orders.
