On May 10, 2024, Tesla announced that production of the Model S and Model X has officially ended at its Fremont factory. The Model S, launched in 2009, had been in production for 14 years, while the Model X, introduced in 2012, had been produced for 11 years. According to Tesla's global sales data for 2025, combined deliveries of the Model 3 and Model Y reached 1.6 million units, whereas total deliveries of the Model S, Model X, and other models amounted to approximately 50,000 units. Starting April 1, 2024, Tesla ceased accepting custom orders for the Model S and Model X, offering only existing inventory for sale. With the discontinuation of these two models, the Fremont factory will be repurposed to produce the Optimus humanoid robot.
