BYD is in talks with European automakers, including Stellantis, to take over underutilized local factories and leverage their idle production capacity, according to sources close to the company. Li Ke, Executive Vice President of BYD who oversees international operations, recently disclosed these developments to the media. Previously, BYD had expressed interest in building its own plant in Mexico, though the plan did not materialize; the company also participated in the bidding for Nissan and Mercedes-Benz’s joint COMPAS plant in Mexico. BYD’s latest move in Europe underscores its ongoing efforts to expand its global manufacturing footprint.
