Nissan Motor is planning to downsize its Yokohama plant—the site of its founding—as part of its ongoing business revitalization efforts. This marks the first time in the current restructuring phase that Nissan is reorganizing a parts manufacturing facility in Japan. Previously, Nissan decided to halt production at seven vehicle assembly plants worldwide. The Yokohama plant has been targeted for restructuring due to low utilization rates and aging facilities, with the actual downsizing expected to take place after 2028. Currently, the plant is conducting trial production of all-solid-state batteries for next-generation electric vehicles, leading Nissan to favor keeping the facility operational rather than closing it entirely.
