General Motors plans to begin local assembly of the Chevrolet Groove and Aveo at its Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico in 2027, exclusively for sale in the Mexican market. Related components will continue to be manufactured in China. This initiative is part of GM’s previously announced $1 billion investment in Mexico, and the official announcement event was held with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum in attendance. Currently, GM has been exporting these models to Mexico from China. The Aveo is one of Mexico’s best-selling vehicles and GM’s top-selling passenger car in the country, with sales surpassing 60,000 units in 2025 and expected to reach a new record high this year. The Ramos Arizpe plant currently produces GM’s electric vehicles, but due to weak demand in the U.S. market, it cut 1,900 jobs earlier this year. Additionally, GM announced last year that it would move production of the gasoline-powered Chevrolet Trailblazer from this Mexican facility back to the United States.
