Vietnamese automaker VinFast recently began local assembly of its first electric MPV—the VF MPV 7—at its Subang plant in West Java, Indonesia. The model has received certification from the Indonesian government, meeting the mandatory minimum local content requirement (TKDN) of 40%. The VF MPV 7 was previously unveiled at the 2026 Indonesia International Motor Show, where the version displayed was imported from Vietnam. The locally assembled variant retains nearly identical exterior styling and core specifications as its Vietnamese counterpart, featuring a rounded design language, 185 mm ground clearance, and a wading depth of 330 mm. It is powered by a 150 kW (201 hp) electric motor delivering peak torque of 280 N·m, paired with a 60.2 kWh battery pack that offers a NEDC-rated range of 450 km. The locally assembled version adds new features including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 360-degree camera system, and an additional roof-mounted luggage rack, while maintaining the same official pricing: IDR 420 million (approximately RMB 192,000) for the version including the battery, and IDR 345 million (approximately RMB 158,000) for the battery-lease variant—both prices inclusive of on-the-road costs in Jakarta. Customers opting for the battery lease plan can choose between two monthly subscription options: IDR 880,000 (approximately RMB 403) for a 2,000-km monthly mileage allowance, or IDR 1.35 million (approximately RMB 618) for higher usage needs. Kariyanto Hardjosoemarto, CEO of VinFast Indonesia, stated that the company participated in the Indonesian government’s Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) program last year and obtained TKDN certification. He added that VinFast will leverage its own manufacturing facility to further increase localization levels, aligning with the government’s policy direction to boost the use of locally sourced components.
