Xiaomi Auto has released details regarding its battery safety tests, which comprised a total of 1,230 test items conducted under exceptionally stringent industry standards. A published extreme-condition test video showed that a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery equivalent to 400,000 kilometers of driving showed no leakage, fire, explosion, or casing rupture after undergoing a nail penetration test under high temperature, fully charged, and without liquid cooling conditions. The battery maintained normal voltage, temperature, and insulation performance, passed air-tightness requirements, and showed no internal water ingress. In two dual-cell nail penetration tests, neither battery experienced thermal runaway propagation, fire, or explosion. During the first test, the system triggered a thermal runaway warning signal. Additionally, reports indicate that Xiaomi Auto has onboarded new battery supplier CATL’s rival, China Aviation Lithium Battery (CALB), for its Kunlun model. For its third vehicle model, Sunwoda is reportedly the primary battery supplier, with CALB as the secondary supplier, at allocation ratios of 60% and 40%, respectively. In response, CALB confirmed it has entered Xiaomi’s supply chain and will supply batteries for the new vehicle but stated that the reported share and ranking information is inaccurate and declined to disclose specific data due to customer confidentiality requirements. Xiaomi Auto did not comment on battery supply-related inquiries, citing the highly confidential nature of its vehicle information.
