On May 25, Didi Chuxing, CATL, and EVOGO jointly announced in Shenzhen the official launch of China’s first standardized light-duty truck battery-swap ecosystem. The system employs CATL’s “Choco Swap” solution, enabling a full battery swap for light trucks in just 120 seconds—allowing drivers to swap and go immediately. According to the companies, over an eight-year service life, each light truck can save more than 2,000 hours in energy replenishment time, with refueling costs roughly half that of comparable diesel-powered light trucks. The swap stations feature a modular architecture compatible with passenger vehicles and light trucks with wheelbases ranging from 2.7 to 3.75 meters. They support both Choco Swap Battery Pack No. 25 and No. 35, enabling seamless integration across both passenger and commercial use cases. Currently, 31 light-truck battery swap stations are operational in the Greater Bay Area, with plans to expand the network to 140 stations by year-end, establishing a 15-minute battery-swap service circle across core areas—prioritizing major expressway corridors and logistics distribution hubs. By the end of 2026, the three partners aim to deploy 5,000 standardized battery-swap light trucks in the Greater Bay Area, creating the nation’s largest standardized urban delivery battery-swap fleet.
