According to data released by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), new car registrations in April 2024 across EU member states, the UK, and European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries totaled 1,152,315 units, an increase of 7% year-on-year. Registrations of electric vehicles—including battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs)—rose by 21% year-on-year, accounting for more than two-thirds of total new car registrations. Meanwhile, the market shares of gasoline and diesel vehicles declined to 15% and 17%, respectively. Chinese brands have emerged as a key driver of growth in the European market. BYD registered 27,008 vehicles in Europe in April, surging 114.5% year-on-year, while Chery saw its registrations jump by 322%. Tesla recorded 10,654 new registrations in Europe in April, up 46.5% year-on-year, marking its third consecutive month of growth.
