Toyota Motor Corporation reported its third consecutive month of year-over-year global sales decline, impacted by supply chain disruptions stemming from Middle East conflicts. In April, Toyota’s global sales—including those of its subsidiary Daihatsu—totaled 902,015 vehicles, down 3.7% year-over-year, while global production rose 3.4% to 933,685 units. The company’s exports to the Middle East plummeted by more than 90% compared to the same period last year. Despite shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, Toyota’s plants have continued operating normally, experiencing relatively less impact than other automakers. However, if supply constraints persist and lead to parts shortages, Toyota’s resilience will be tested—highlighting the auto industry’s heavy reliance on the Gulf region for components, raw materials, and energy supplies.
