At approximately 2:40 a.m. on May 28, 2026, a Maxus-brand minivan (license plate number E-F8A7L8), rated to carry nine passengers but actually carrying 16, rear-ended a semi-trailer truck on the G40 Shanghai–Xi'an Expressway at kilometer marker K991+800 in Maoji Township, Tongbai County, Nanyang City, Henan Province. The crash resulted in 13 fatalities and three injuries. The involved minivan was a privately owned blue-plate vehicle without valid road transport operating permits. The driver, a resident of Dengzhou City, Nanyang, Henan Province, died in the accident. The three injured individuals have been transported to Nanyang for medical treatment. One of the injured reported that some passengers had paid to board the vehicle en route.
