GMC recently unveiled two Hummer X concept vehicles—a pickup truck variant and an SUV variant—both built around the core principles of sustainability and reconfigurable design. The vehicles feature a mono-material integrated structure, eliminating traditional adhesive bonding methods entirely in favor of snap-fit joints and mechanical fasteners to enable full recyclability of components. Most parts are also designed for easy disassembly, facilitating user-friendly replacement and reuse. The concepts utilize a metal 3D printing process called Flex Fab, which allows a single machine to produce multiple component designs, supporting small-batch, on-demand manufacturing. This technology is used to fabricate 57% of the body components, aiming to advance circular economy practices and foster a community-driven automotive ecosystem. The SUV measures 4,783 mm in length, 2,032 mm in width, and 1,852 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,946 mm. Although slightly smaller overall than the production Hummer EV SUV, it boasts a ground clearance of 335 mm, offering enhanced off-road capability. Inside, the cabin features modular, interconnectable large displays that allow drivers to customize their cockpit layout according to personal preferences. The unveiling also marks the official opening of GMC’s new design center in Pasadena, California.
