On June 3, 2026, an Aito M9 was involved in an accident in Zeguo Town, Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province. On-site investigations confirmed that while driving, the vehicle struck a large metal component that had fallen from the vehicle ahead, causing a severe physical impact. The car subsequently dragged the debris for a period of time before catching fire. The blaze was later extinguished, and no injuries or fatalities occurred. Prior to the incident, the vehicle’s triple electric system (battery, motor, and electronic control) was functioning normally, with no other abnormalities detected; the accident was not caused by any fault of the vehicle itself. Following the incident, Aito provided details on the safety design of the Huawei Whale Battery Platform used in the M9. The platform features intrinsically safe materials and an upright cell architecture, with aerogel—typically used in aerospace applications—filling the gaps between cells. It also incorporates high-temperature-resistant mica plates and nano-ceramic thermal insulation layers, forming a comprehensive 15-layer safety protection system. According to the company, even if some battery cells are damaged under extreme conditions, this design can effectively prevent fire propagation.
