BYD has not yet sold any vehicles in Canada but has already begun preparations to introduce its 1,500 kW flash-charging technology into the local market. Based on its second-generation Blade Battery and a 1,000V high-voltage architecture, this technology can add 400 kilometers of range in just five minutes. Recently, BYD posted a job listing in Toronto seeking a Flash Charging Business Development Manager responsible for developing cost and profitability models for establishing a flash-charging network in Canada, identifying local partners, driving grid upgrades, and participating in the joint operation and management of charging stations. Beyond Canada, BYD plans to build approximately 3,000 flash-charging stations across Europe by the end of 2025, with an investment of around €580,000 per station, totaling an estimated $2 billion. Australia, New Zealand, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa are also included in BYD’s expansion plans for its flash-charging network. Meanwhile, the Canadian government is drafting a new fuel efficiency standards framework to replace its previously controversial mandatory EV policy. It has indicated a limited openness to Chinese automakers assembling vehicles locally, potentially requiring the use of locally developed software or the formation of joint ventures with domestic companies.
