On June 13, Apollo Go—the autonomous ride-hailing platform under Baidu—launched public road testing of its driverless service named AmiGo in Switzerland, in collaboration with local public transport operator PostBus. The service aims to serve areas that are difficult for conventional buses to reach and where passenger demand is dispersed, thereby enhancing the overall coverage of the public transportation network and improving mobility for residents. The project is scheduled to transition to regular operations by 2027, at which point users will be able to book vehicles via a mobile app. As of April 2024, Apollo Go had completed over 22 million ride orders globally. By May, its operations had expanded to 27 cities worldwide, with its autonomous vehicles having logged more than 330 million kilometers in cumulative driving distance. This road testing initiative in Europe marks a significant milestone, demonstrating that Apollo Go’s autonomous technology meets stringent local regulatory standards. The service is positioned as a complement—not a replacement—to existing public transit systems.
