Swedish truck manufacturer Scania has secured an order from Wibax for 105 fully electric semi-trucks—the largest single electric truck deal to date in the EU’s bulk freight transport sector. Wibax, a company specializing in bulk cargo transportation, plans to deploy these vehicles across various operational routes throughout Europe. The collaboration between the two companies began in 2022 with a pilot project involving a three-axle Scania electric tractor-trailer operating on a fixed 80-kilometer route between Piteå and Skellefteå in northern Sweden. The successful pilot has now led directly to this large-scale order of over 100 units, demonstrating its positive outcomes. Jonas Viklund, CEO of the Wibax Group, stated that the company is committed to accelerating the electrification of its fleet. He emphasized that battery-electric solutions offer long-term advantages in heavy-duty, short-haul, and fixed-route transport scenarios, and highlighted Scania as a key strategic partner for implementing this technology. Scania noted that the order not only reflects customer confidence in its electric solutions but also serves as a benchmark for advancing the electrification of freight transport across the EU. Tobias Edholm, Global Head of Sales for Scania’s electric truck solutions, added that fully electric trucks are increasingly becoming a strategic choice for customers aiming to comply with emissions regulations and maintain long-term competitiveness.
