Ford has clearly stated that its newly developed Universal EV electric vehicle platform will not be used for the Mustang Mach-E. The platform was built from the ground up specifically to enhance overall vehicle efficiency, with its first application being a compact pickup truck, followed by other electric models. Currently, the Mach-E is Ford’s only all-electric vehicle sold in the U.S. market, and the current generation will remain on sale through at least 2027. Earlier reports suggested the vehicle could receive a major upgrade after 2030, but Ford’s latest comments indicate even that plan is uncertain. CEO Jim Farley has publicly acknowledged that the development direction of Ford’s first-generation EVs, including the Mach-E, was misaligned. Meanwhile, Ford plans to launch an all-electric version of the Escape based on the Universal EV platform toward the end of the 2020s, which could further impact the Mach-E’s market positioning once it arrives.
