Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) recently unveiled its solid-state battery development roadmap: it plans to achieve mass production of semi-solid-state (hybrid solid-liquid) batteries by 2026, begin small-scale production of all-solid-state batteries in 2027, and aims to realize large-scale commercial application before 2030. Pursuing a dual-track strategy of "hybrid solid-liquid first, followed by all-solid-state," CATL has already launched a condensed-phase battery with an energy density of 500 Wh/kg, which has been successfully deployed in a 4-ton electric aircraft and demonstrates a cycle life exceeding 2,000 cycles. As a transitional solution, semi-solid-state batteries offer energy densities ranging from 300 to 480 Wh/kg. Despite some automakers advocating for "de-CATLization," the company maintains a significant advantage in the solid-state battery race thanks to its technological leadership and ecosystem integration. Domestic automakers such as SAIC Motor, NIO, and XPeng are also accelerating their investments in this field, with future competition centering on technology commercialization, cost control, and supply chain collaboration.
