LEVC Plans to Launch Next-Gen London Black Cab in Second Half of 2027

On the 16th local time, London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC), owned by Geely Holding, plans to launch a new generation of London black cabs in the second half of 2027. LEVC’s 2025 financial statements filed with Companies House show that production of the range-extended TX will be gradually phased out. The current TX model cannot be modified to meet new regulations concerning seat strength, seat anchorage points, and head restraints. LEVC sold 725 TX units in 2025 and is only carrying out final-stage assembly work in 2026. The TX is produced at the Ansty plant near Coventry and is one of the models approved by Transport for London to operate as a London black cab. LEVC stated that the Ansty plant will shift to producing a new model and is currently working with Geely to secure the R&D activities and subsequent assembly operations for the next-generation TX at Ansty. However, production of the new taxi could also be moved to other facilities, with one potential location being Geely’s plant in Yiwu, China. LEVC previously referred to Yiwu as its China manufacturing base, though no vehicles under the brand have been produced there. In its financial report, the company said: “The timing for this product’s development, investment, and launch remains uncertain, and there is no decision yet on how the Ansty manufacturing facility will be utilized in the future.” Development of the next-generation TX is supported by Geely China, and the Ansty plant may also be repurposed in the future to produce other models from the Geely group. According to design sketches released by LEVC, the new vehicle retains the front lighting signature of the current model but features changes to its body styling.
